The Thinking Heart – Perusasion

The Thinking Heart – Persuasion

Over the past centuries the concept of heart and Thinking  has gone through three major phases. The first began from the first creation until the Renaissance. The main understanding was that the heart is the organ responsible for love, hate, and inclination. This was inspired from various religion beliefs so communities were impacted with this idea about the heart. Then Islam arrived and the Quran inspired humanity with a new meaning of the heart’s true operation.
“And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.”
-Al A’raf-179
“So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.”
-Al Haj-46
“Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.”
-Al Baqarah-74
“Allah has sent down the best statement; a consistent book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray, for him there is no guide.”
-Az Zumur-23
“Has it not become clear to those who inherited the earth after its [previous] people that if We willed, We could afflict them for their sins? But We seal over their hearts so they do not hear.”
-Al A’raf-100
“Those who remained behind of the Bedouins will say to you, “Our properties and our families occupied us, so ask forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not within their hearts. Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit? Rather, ever is Allah, with what you do, acquainted.”
-Al Fath-11
All these verses, and others, speak about an effective role of the heart which is different than the common pattern seen everywhere today.
Then the second phase rolled around, beginning from the Renaissance up until the mid-twentieth century, where natural and applied sciences developed and flourished. Proportionally, atheism and the trait of denying God also increased, thinking that this slight, microscopic amount of knowledge we gained has exceeded the simple truth of God’s existence;
“Little knowledge of science makes man an atheist, but in-depth study of science makes him a believer in God”
– Francis Bacon
At the time of the industrial revolution, there was a conviction that the heart is just a muscle, designed to pump blood through the entire body. Solely operating for this mechanical task, the spiritual task is now just a myth, inherited through a fake religious heritage.
The third phase came around in the middle of the twentieth century, where observations and scientific studies accomplished many discoveries about the real nature of the heart. Many of these studies show that the heart has more tasks than just being a simple, little blood pumper. In fact, they found a very close relation between the electromagnetic fields produced by the brain to the ones produced by the heart.
By examining the case of three hundred patients subjected to a heart transplant operation, they found that all those patients experienced a tremendous change in their innate characteristics post-transplant. They also noticed that the patients received many memories from their donors and remembered them as if they were their own memories. If the donor died of drowning, the patient who received the heart started to feel a phobia from water, which he never experienced before. Other studies showed that the heart has neurons exactly the same as the ones the brain has. There are almost 40,000 neurons in the heart, approximately and we know that neurons are the basic structure of memories. The thinking process and decision making are the sole existence of neurons. So when it comes to your heart, similar decisions are being carried out.
So, concepts like talking to the heart and seeking decisions from the heart start to sound more logical now. That’s why there is so much inspiration and a new understanding of the verse of the Quran that speaks about the heart thinking .
“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.”
-Ar R’ad-28
“and He cast terror into their hearts”
-Al Hashr-2.
